Well that’s summer out of the way (what there was of it!) and having the children around has actually inspired me rather than hindered my creative flow! We have actually managed to come up with and perfect a load of new keepsake ideas, some of which are already on the website and several that are just being finalised and will be on very shortly!

Our range of silver fingerprint jewellery is now online, for those of you who know me, you will know I am a perfectionist and I like to offer keepsakes that I love, this is why we have developed the fingertip charms, something a bit different and perfect even with a newborn baby, as the whole of the end of the finger is captured in your own precious charm, we are also offering the traditional fingerprint charms too, always a favourite with mums everywhere.

Also our range of enhanced photos is now online, right in time for the perfect unique Christmas gift for Grandparents or a great addition to any nursery wall, from fairies to pirates, we can create them all! The photography side of our business has been extremely busy over the summer and we are now taking bookings for the run up to Christmas, our photographer is extremely talented and will amaze you with his creative photography skills.

Well, what a busy couple of weeks again! We did a baby show in Falmouth and I can honestly say that we have never met so many pregnant mums in one place, it was lovely to meet so many of you and we had some lovely, positive feedback on our new frames and baby casting kits. We were exhausted by the time we got home on Sunday evening and so my wonderful hubby took me out for dinner, the perfect end to a very hectic weekend. We came back to reality with a bump on Monday back at the office though, catching up with all the orders and the casts that I am making, busy, busy, busy, I am very much looking forward to some quality time with my family this weekend and a well needed break from business. We had a lot of interest in the feature about us in the Bump 2 Baby magazine and we gave out lots of free copies at the show. Our new-look website is also well underway and our new products are gradually being sorted out and are beginning to appear online, being in business is never dull and there is always more to do but things are now falling into place and we are looking forward to an extremely bright and exciting future.

When I wanted to do casts of my children all those years ago, I didn’t know where to go or what I really wanted, all the life-casters that were already out there were way to expensive and this was my inspiration for setting up my business, Borrowed Moments Baby Casting Kits & Keepsakes. I began by offering castings for babies and I was fascinated by the process, after a time parents started asking me for kits that they could do at home and this is why I perfected our baby casting kits, our range has grown over the years and we now offer the largest selection of casting kits in the UK. Our range of kits offer great value and enable parents to create their own tiny baby keepsakes to treasure forever in the comfort of their own homes and most report that it is very satisfying having created the finished masterpiece themselves. My first love is still actually creating perfect baby hand and foot casts and this is where my passion really is, but recently we have designed personalised picture frames and personalised name canvases which are gorgeous, unique pieces to add to any child’s room and they make unusual baby gifts, I am still managing to indulge my creative side on a daily basis which is good and keeps me very busy. I have a good team that work with me now and things are ticking along nicely in the baby keepsake world! We would like to welcome our newest member of staff; Lisa is the latest member to join us here in our Torpoint studio. She has been thrown right in at the deep end by starting right before Christmas, as we are madly busy casting baby hands and feet, making baby impressions and making up lots of baby casting kits, for lots of lovely parents to make their own personal baby keepsakes to treasure forever. The children are back at school after a rainy summer and we are back to business perfecting more beautiful, personalised baby gifts for you, in time for Christmas. We have lots of new items coming along so keep an eye out as we expand our range even further!

Creating the baby castings and personal keepsakes are still my true passion though and it is a great compliment when a Mum comes in to collect her casts and cries with absolute joy at how beautiful they are, thank-you for that Alicia, I am so glad that you are that happy with the gorgeous casts of both of your children, it made my week! I also finished casts for my son’s teacher this week (no pressure then!), but he and his wife were thrilled with the results of their daughter’s hand and foot castings so I hope no extra homework for my son!!

Lots of little baby shows to do at the moment, which are keeping us busy and we are interviewing for new staff so lots to fit in but I am looking forward to making a lot of people happy on Christmas day as they open gifts made by us, make sure that you order early to be sure that it will be ready in time for the big day.

My, oh my, I have been neglecting my blog! We have been very busy making lots of changes and improvements. Our new website is mostly online now and the rest of the updated site will be going live very soon. We have changed our deep rebate frames and our new ones are even more beautiful than our old ones, these have a lovely, contemporary look and because they don’t need a mount, we can offer them in a huge variety of colours, making them a perfect addition to any décor. Our keepsake services have also been increased as we are now able to offer a huge variety of keepsake items created by our professional team to create your perfect memory for you. We are also featured in the latest spring issue of the Bump2baby magazine in the working life section, which is a piece on finding a good balance between home and work life, as a self-confessed workaholic I doubt that I will ever find this balance!

We are pleased to announce that we now have our own in-house baby photographer so we can now create a range of photographic keepsake items. Our new, resident photographer is looking forward to taking on the challenge of taking your beautiful, baby and family photographs. Welcome Kevin to the Borrowed Moments team, we hope that he will enjoy his experience with us.

This means that it is now easier than ever, for us to create your castings and photos on site and means that you can sort out exactly what you want all in one place. We are starting off with a range of different size photos and canvases and some great value packages as well and we will be doing some super offers throughout the year so watch out for these!

Those special, tiny baby moments are gone so quickly, I was reminded this week. My friend, whose 3rd baby’s casts were ready this week was amazed by how much her tiny feet have grown already, after just a few weeks and is very pleased that she has got a permanent reminder of how tiny her feet once were.

I at the other end of the scale have taken casts of my 5 year old daughter’s feet to encase with her ballet shoes and her medal to remind me of when she won her medal and certificate at her end of year show! I got the idea from a customer that I took casts of her daughter earlier in the year to display alongside her ballet shoes. The end result looks fantastic as you can see and shows that you really can put anything you like into a box frame and make a very personal and special memory.

Well what a busy time, my feet are killing me from all that standing at the show and the 'race for life' this weekend, I must be mad!! The Exeter show was a fantastic success and it was great to meet so many customers both old and new. Well, that’s another month gone in a haze. We have been working flat out getting all our luxury products up to the highest standard they can be. For me, Borrowed Moments is all about offering beautiful, luxury kits that any parent would be proud to have, at fantastic prices and this I think we have achieved, I am very happy with the quality items we are able to offer and judging by the comments we have been receiving from our customers, you’re happy with our products too, which is fabulous! Thanks to the Children’s centre in Torpoint, for allowing us to visit to show off our products, we look forward to introducing ourselves to you and showing you our range of keepsakes.

I’m going to be very careful about where I sit at the moment as there seems to be a mad increase in pregnancy going around; perhaps it’s the cold evenings! I just don’t want to get caught out by sitting in the ‘pregnancy chair’ any time soon. I’m quite happy making a fuss of other people’s babies and handing them back these days, I have quite enough of my own and I don’t need any more, I have 5 children already, a husband, a dog and my own business and that’s enough for any woman!

We have been so busy I have been neglecting my blog again! We have been so busy with training, bringing on new lines and getting our showroom ready. We have got our fantastic showroom area all up and running now and it looks fantastic, if you live near us then please do pop in for a look around when you are passing to have a look at our fantastic range. We now have our workshop, our showroom and our offices all in one premises which makes things a lot easier. Some of the new items we are launching this year are coming on line, our new ‘Doodle Mugs’ range are mugs that we can put your child’s original artwork onto, these make great, original presents and are even dishwasher proof too! Our paint wipe kits have had a make-over and are looking much better now; these all make great keepsakes and are really simple to do and our 3d clay impressions are beginning to take shape, photos and prices will be put on shortly.

A happy new year to all our customers.

We have been so busy that I'm afraid I have been neglecting my 'blog' duties! We have finally done it, we have moved to much larger premises, however just before Christmas at our busiest time was not the best time to move but we are still standing, just!!

This will enable us to offer you even more products at fantastic prices and we have a separate studio area to display all our items so if you live in Cornwall or Devon, you can visit us to take a look at our products before you choose which keepsake you would like to create or to have created for you and I would love to say that it has been great to meet so many of you already who have popped in to take a look at our products.

Our workshop and offices are all on the same site now so it will be easier to keep on top of things.We have had our graphic design team busy too, as we were moving we thought we would give the company a complete overhaul and our new image is slowly being introduced.

I would like to say a special thank-you to Jason who has been extremely patient as we batted ideas to-and-fro and finally agreed on a design we all love!

Watch out for the new logo and image coming soon.Because of all the extra space we have been able to give our clay impression kits a facelift; they are now available with a better choice of frame options. We are also able to offer these amazing impressions taken in clay, made by us for you as well as our 3d casts.

The clay is extremely soft and we take the impressions for you and then magically, with some great turn them into beautiful keepsakes for you. We have also increased our choice of frames for you; we now have modern, deep rebate frames as well as our range of box-frames available so there are more items to choose from than ever.

New for the end of 2008, check out our new range of deep rebate framed kits, these create a very modern and stylish look to any décor. We will be stocking the natural brown colour as a regular item and we also have limited stock of the silver-grey and white in both the 8”x8” and 10”x8” sizes which we are selling off as special offers, so grab yourself a bargain before they are all gone!

We have been extremely busy moving the business, space was desperately needed and our new showroom will be ready soon, we are very excited and looking forward to this new venture. 3D Casting Consultant Sessions

We are pleased to be able to offer you personal casting sessions again. Simply make an appointment to come to our studio in Torpoint, where we will take the impressions for you and produce your finished piece in the finish that you choose, samples are available at our studio for you to see the different finishes that are available to you. We can also arrange to come to your baby group if some of your friends want castings done at the same time, this is only available for foot castings (as hands are better taken when baby is more relaxed, in a quieter environment).
Casts are available fixed in an 8”x8” classic square frame, available in traditional and natural pine or a silver style frame or in a 10”x8” luxury frame with photo option, which is available in the same frame finishes, just bring along your favourite standard sized (4”x6” photo and we will fix it in for you alongside your casts. The frames can have ivory, pink or blue backings and mounts, the casts can be finished in a choice of silver, gold, bronze, white, copper or faux bronzed effect, samples of colours will be available to view at your casting session.
Your orders will normally be ready within 14 days (this may take longer at very busy times but I will try and let you know in advance if they will be delayed in any way). When your item is finished, I will call you for you to come and collect (items can be posted via courier for a small extra charge if you want this option, just let me know).

2 feet in an 8”x8” frame £80.00
A hand and foot in an 8”x8” frame £85.00
2 feet in a 10”x8” luxury, photo frame £90.00
A hand and a foot in a 10”x8” luxury, photo frame £95.00

Life casting with babies or young children is like any other life casting, it is never guaranteed to succeed, you may need to come back in for another sitting if the casts are unsuccessful, of course I have taken a lot of castings so my chances of getting it right are good but I cannot guarantee that your casting will be straightforward, especially if you want baby hands cast. I will not frame casts that I am not happy with; I would rather call you and get you to come back in and re-do the moulds.

New for August, check out our lovely new larger frames, these are available in gold or silver and are perfect with our 3 aperture mounts to display a photo in the middle and casts on either side, making a more unusual statement if you just want to display the casts of one child. Or our new twins or siblings option, this is the larger 12”x8” frame with a much larger space than our standard kits, giving you plenty of room to display the casts of twins, older brother’s or sister’s alongside their new baby’s casts, which is an incredible bonding experience for your older child, as they can ‘help’ to cast the baby’s hands or feet or even a fantastic space for displaying just the casts of an older child. As the twins/siblings kit comes with twice as much powder as our standard single child kit, there will be plenty of powder to take plenty of casts to ensure that you get the perfect casts to display in your frame. These kits come in a gift box and are perfect as a gift for some-one else or just as a special reminder for you.

Well, what a busy month it’s been. We have had our website completely re-designed and brought out a whole load of new products to coincide with the launch of the new website. This has brought us bang up to date and increased our product range dramatically! We are now able to offer the Inkless wipes which means we offer a whole new range of products. Our clay impressions have been given a face lift as these are a popular alternative to the 3D castings and our packaging has been given an upgrade too, meaning that our products look even more special and look really great as gifts now.

Thank you once again for all the emails that people have sent us, it is so rewarding to know that we must be doing something right when we receive such emotive thanks from people who have bought kits and attempted them and been amazed at the fantastic results and the ease of use of our kits, it makes us really proud to know that we are achieving what we set out to achieve, which is great products at great prices. Running your own business around your family is certainly not the easy option, we often work late evenings and early mornings but we wouldn’t change any of it, as watching the business go from strength to strength and helping so many people create their own special keepsakes is extremely rewarding, even if it’s very stressful and tiring!
